Alephium & $ALPH
What Alephium is, how to set up a wallet and where to explore the chain.
DeadRare is built entirely on Alephium, so a little context goes a long way. This page covers what Alephium is, how to get a wallet and some $ALPH, and where to look things up on-chain.
What is Alephium?
Alephium is a layer‑1 blockchain built for speed, security and scalability. It uses a sharded proof‑of‑work design (Proof‑of‑Less‑Work) and a stateful UTXO model, which together give it high throughput and low fees while keeping the security properties people expect from proof‑of‑work.
For DeadRare, the important part is that every action is a real on‑chain transaction: listing, buying, offering and minting all settle directly on Alephium. There is no custodial middle layer — your wallet signs, the smart contract executes, and the result is final.
The $ALPH token
$ALPH is the native token of the Alephium network. You use it for everything on‑chain:
- Paying (very small) gas fees on every transaction
- Buying NFTs on DeadRare
- Covering the refundable network storage deposit when you list or mint
You will always need a little $ALPH in your wallet to interact with DeadRare, even when you are only listing — gas fees are paid in $ALPH.
Alephium uses groups (shards). Some marketplace and creator actions require a Group 0 address. Most wallets let you pick which group an address belongs to when you create it.
Setting up a wallet
You will need an Alephium wallet to connect to DeadRare. The official wallets — the browser extension, desktop and mobile apps — are all listed here:
- Get a wallet: https://alephium.org/#wallets
Create a wallet, write down your secret recovery phrase and store it offline, then send yourself some $ALPH from an exchange or a friend. Once you have a funded wallet, head to Buying an NFT or Selling & Listing.
Nobody from the DeadRare team will ever DM you first or ask for your recovery phrase. Never share your seed phrase or private keys with anyone.
Exploring the chain
The Alephium Explorer is your source of truth for anything that happens on‑chain. Every listing, sale and transfer produces a transaction you can look up there.
- Explorer: https://explorer.alephium.org/
Use it to confirm a purchase, check a smart contract balance, or track a transaction by its hash. When a DeadRare team member asks for a "transaction hash", it is the id of one of these on‑chain records — think of it as a receipt.
